After finals season concluded, sports teams completed playoff campaigns, and the campus transitioned to its summer focus, a large group of students departed for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan. As seen in the numerous sign-ups for this year’s trip, the Japan trip was, as usual, incredibly popular.
Students got to travel to a multitude of cities, including Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Students learned about culture and food, and explored new places. The students on the trip loved exploring intricate and beautiful temples, walking and swimming on stunning beaches, and trying delicious sushi. Many boys enjoyed learning about new cultural norms, such as being silent on the train, not eating while walking, and not sitting on sidewalks.
Students across the board loved the trip. One Form IV student said that his favorite part was exploring Osaka, because he got to spend time with his friends, meet locals, and try a multitude of new foods. A Form VI student mentioned that his favorite part was being on top of the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka on the last night. I thought it was a great conclusion to our trip, overlooking the entire city.”
Students also learned about American and Japanese history. They explored historical monuments and battle sites to learn more. One Form VI student said, “The most meaningful part of the Japan Trip was definitely walking through the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, because that’s where I really understood the result of the Hiroshima bombing, seeing the different survivor stories, burnt clothes, and the magnitude of the impact the Japanese felt, especially from us Americans.”
Overall, June 2026 was another incredible year for the Japan Trip, with boys from multiple forms learning more about culture and history, exploring a new cities, and making bonds that will last a lifetime.
