Laufey, an Icelandic-Chinese Jazz-pop singer-songwriter, rose to fame in the 2020s. The traditional style of her music has a nostalgic feel, while her modern lyrics appeal to youth, making her music attractive to a wide audience. Her success in music is clearly seen through her Grammy in Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album (2024) for her second album, Bewitched. Her third album, A Matter of Time, was released on August 22, 2025, and is the focus of her current world tour. The tour started on September 15, where Laufey performed at the Kia Center in Orlando. The first leg of the tour is in the United States and Canada, where she has performed in cities such as Los Angeles and Vancouver, and will finish in the Northeast US on October 27 in Boston. All of her shows in North America are being opened by Sufi Waterhouse, a popular English singer-songwriter. Following this, she will travel to Europe in late February, performing in Denmark, Germany, and France, among others. She finishes in London at The O2 Arena, and ends her world tour in Iceland on March 15.
Each show featured all of her songs from A Matter of Time, as well as across other albums. Matching the aesthetic of the album, the set has a fairytale-like, orchestral theme, with props such as spinning clocks and a castle staircase. Building on this theme, the setlist was split into 5 acts, each representing a stage in a relationship. Starting with “Clockwork” – the first song in the album – and followed by the most popular song on her album, “Lover Girl”, Act I represents the beginning of a romance. For Act II, Laufey went to the clock in the middle of the stage that transformed into a late-night jazz club setting. A quartet accompanied all of these songs, and Laufey sang them with a jazz-like rhythm, different from how they sound on a music streaming platform. Laufey kept Act III short and sweet, singing only two songs and an instrumental piece, all from the album. “Carousel” and “Forget-Me-Not” tell two different stories – one of them about exploring a new, vulnerable relationship, and the other paying tribute to her homeland of Iceland. Act III finished with “Cuckoo Ballet (Interlude)”, where Laufey played the cello, showcasing her skills as a professionally-trained cellist. Act IV was the climax of the story, with songs such as “Goddess,” where Laufey sings while playing the piano under a single spotlight. “Goddess was my favorite song of the show. It evoked a lot of emotions, and I loved the instrumentals.” said Esther Park, a show attendee. Finally, the show ended with Act V, reflecting on the story and Laufey’s experience.
On all of her shows during this tour, Laufey chooses a “Best Dressed Guest”, someone Mei Mei the Bunny (a Laufey mascot) deems as having the best outfit of the night. Chicago’s winner, a girl named Sarah, wore a cello dress with references to Laufey’s album, such as a Forget-Me-Not veil and a clock purse. Benny the Bull, the mascot of the Chicago Bulls made a surprise appearance to crown Sarah as the winner of the contest. As another exciting segment, at the end of her show, Laufey chooses one “surprise” song to sing to the audience. For Chicago, she chose “Bewitched,” dedicating it in a heartwarming speech to a young girl named Katherine, whose dream was to see Laufey perform live. Overall, Laufey’s stunning vocals made the show a magical and inspiring experience for all.
