Kicking off the 2025 awards season, the 82nd Annual Golden Globes were held earlier this month to celebrate 2024’s best television and film, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser — the first solo female host in the award show’s history. The ceremony had 9.3 million viewers, but viral clips are still gaining traction on social media. The biggest winners of the night were Netflix’s “Emilia Pérez” starring Selena Gomez, Max’s hit comedy show “Hacks” and the critically acclaimed A24 film “The Brutalist.” However, other films like “Wicked” and “Queer” had surprising snubs throughout their respective categories.
Glaser, best known for her comedy roasts, brought her signature unfiltered commentary and comedic charm to the stage, in no way shying away from poking fun at Hollywood’s A-Listers. Throwing jabs at stars like Ariana Grande to Martin Short to Timothee Chalamet, her performance was refreshing compared to last year’s controversy when comedian Jo Koy made multiple offensive and misogynistic jokes. Rumors have already circulated online that Glaser will return as next year’s host, coming as no surprise, considering she truly is a comedic force to be reckoned with.
As humorous as the audience found Glaser, the red carpet was the star of the show at this year’s Golden Globes. Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez made their first public appearance since their engagement and arrived in classic old Hollywood fashion. Gomez wore a timeless Cinderella blue gown by Prada, recieving many compliments from the media. Many people have shared their excitement for Gomez and Blanco and the future of their relationship.
Similarly, Tom Holland and Zendaya hard launched their engagement at the golden globes as well, with Zendaya showcasing a rock on her left-hand ring finger. Many people saw this engagement coming, and it was not a surprise; however, it caught everyone off guard and is making people wonder what the future is for Holland and Zendaya in the acting industry, as Holland previously shared that once he has a family of his own, he will step away from the spotlight and spend time raising his children.
