On Sunday, November 16, the Varsity Squash team had their first matches of the season, facing the Latin School of Chicago and MetroSquash. After a successful 2024 campaign, the team picked up right where they left off, beating a younger Latin team 12-1, and taking victory over a tougher MetroSquash team 5-3.
In his first start on varsity, Dawson Ward ‘27 was a standout player, dominating his games. He won 3-0 against both teams, which is an amazing result for the Caxys. Captain and Senior Hamza Jafri ‘26 also won 3-0 against both his opponents. Since the Caxys have many more players this year, the lineups were changed between both games, giving almost everyone a chance to play a match. Many new freshmen were able to show their newfound skills for the first time over the weekend.
This year, LFA Squash looks to win their third Chicagoland Squash Championship in a row, after coasting somewhat easily to wins in 2024 and 2025. This year will be the second of the last four years that they travel to the US Squash High School Championships in Philadelphia, having done that last in 2023. This will be their second national tournament with coach Islam Adel, who has proven to be a vital part in the recent success of the varsity squash program.
