On April 22, an everyday baseball game against Schaumburg Christian School turned into one for the Lake Forest Academy history books after Owen Adrianopoli ‘27 became the first player in LFA history to hit three home runs in a home game. “It is going to be a game that I tell my grandkids about 60 years from now,” replied Adrianopoli when asked about how he felt to make history.
Although the game ended in a loss for the Caxys, Adrianopoli played nothing short of spectacular. “I know that I’ve put in hard work during practice and extra time working on my mechanics, so when I step up to bat, all I need to do is take a deep breath and trust that the work I’ve put in beforehand will pay off.” remarked Adrianopoli on his mindset during the game. He faced three different pitchers for each of his three home runs making his feat even more impressive. “All three pitches I hit out were fastballs, but all three pitchers had off speed pitches like curveballs and changeups. None of them had anything that was overwhelmingly good, so I decided to sit on the fastball.” said Andrianopoli.
The fence that encaptures LFA’s baseball field is only about 13 years old. This means that before 2013, it was way harder to hit home runs at home because outfielders could sit far back on big hitters. This is not to take away from Adrianopoli’s feat however, as he is still the first and only to hit three home runs in a game at LFA even since the fence was constructed.
