Over the last five years, Scottie Scheffler has taken over professional golf. Since picking up his first Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour win in 2022, Scheffler has gone from one of the best young players to the clear No. 1 player in the world. With four major championships, dozens of top finishes and victories coming every season, the consistency has separated him from everyone else. Scheffler’s run has reached a point where his dominance is drawing comparison to the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods.
Scheffler entered 2022 without a win on the PGA Tour, but it didn’t take him long to change that. Scheffler won the WM Phoenix Open in February and followed his maiden win with three more wins from February to April. Scheffler dominated both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and WGC Dell Technologies Match Play. Just two months after his first win, Scheffler won the crown jewel that every golfer aspires to win: The Masters Tournament. In 2023, the wins slowed down, but Scheffler did not. Scheffler won twice, including at The Players Championship. While the wins were not as frequent as in 2022, Scheffler recorded 17 top-ten finishes in 23 events, and only finished outside the top-25 four times.
By the end of his first two dominant seasons, Scheffler had six PGA Tour wins, a major championship and 27 top-ten finishes across 48 starts, establishing himself as one of the most consistent players in golf. Even when not winning, Scheffler was almost always in contention. But even though he was the best ball striker in the world, the only thing holding him back from winning more was his putting woes.
The answer came in 2024 and 2025. Scheffler won eight times on the PGA Tour in 2024, the most by any player in a season since Woods in 2007. Scheffler’s victories included the Masters, the Players Championship, and the Tour Championship. But most of all, Scheffler won the Olympic Gold Medal in Paris after a final round of 62. Usually, after a dominant season like that, you regress in wins—but not for Scheffler. Scheffler won the PGA Championship by five shots and the Open Championship by four, giving him four career major championships and one major away from the Grand Slam, which entails winning all four major championships at least once. Scheffler is only missing the U.S. Open. During the two years, Scheffler finished with 33 top-ten finishes and 37 top-25 finishes in 39 starts.
While the 2022 and 2023 seasons put Scheffler’s name on the map, the next two seasons made him historic. He became the second player since 1983, joining Woods, to record multiple PGA Tour seasons with at least six victories. At the end of 2025, Scheffler also became the only player to win the Player of the Year award four consecutive times, also joining Woods. What separated Scheffler from everyone else in those couple of seasons was not how good he played, but how rarely he played poorly. In 2025, Scheffler led the PGA Tour in the first, second, third and final-round scoring averages, something that had not been done since Woods in 2000.
Even after historic seasons in 2024 and 2025, Scheffler continued to win in 2026. He won the American Express for his 20th career win, reaching this milestone in just 151 starts—the fastest, besides Woods, since 1997. Scheffler added two more wins, including his second Tour Championship, to finish the season with 22 career wins.
Scheffler’s last five years have put him in rare company. He has won 22 times, four major championships and has been number one in the world for 170 consecutive weeks. Comparing anyone to Woods is hard, but Scheffler’s consistency and dominance make the comparison difficult to ignore. What started with a playoff victory on Super Bowl Sunday in 2022 has become one of the most dominant stretches of golf anyone has seen in decades.
