Lake Forest Academy’s annual Fall Open House took place on Oct. 25. Every year, the school opens its doors to hundreds of prospective students and their families for a day on campus. Upon registration, students and their families have the opportunity to hear from the Head of School, a student panel and members of each academic department. The day ends with a student-led tour of the campus.
This year’s open house was a success. Over 100 students and their families showed up to the event. Many said they were interested in the academics LFA has to offer, including the amount of AP courses and opportunities to learn outside the classroom.
The student panel answered questions about what a typical day in their life looks like and how well they feel they are supported by the teachers. Parents asked questions about residential life and the communication between parents and teachers.
Caxys in the Student Ambassador Club were tour guides for attending families. They finished their tour of campus with a department fair in the Athletic Center. Representatives from every academic department had a station. Other tables included the Dean of Students Office, the Residential Life Office and the new Testing Center. Families were given time to walk around, ask questions and collect pamphlets from any station they were interested in.
The event’s primary organizers are members of the Admissions department as well as the Head Ambassadors: the group of student leaders that head the Student Ambassador Club.
“The purpose of the Ambassador Club is to welcome new and prospective students into the LFA community and help them feel comfortable and connected on campus,” Head Ambassador Anaya MacLennan ’27 said. “We also aim to encourage current LFA students to become more actively involved in our school community by representing LFA and sharing their experiences with visitors.”
“Behind the scenes, the head ambassadors meet once a cycle to plan for the upcoming weeks, discuss important events and go over key responsibilities. In addition to the Head Ambassadors, Ms. Morroni plays a major role in organizing events, coordinating shadow hosts, and arranging campus tours,” MacLennan said.
The Open House is one of their most important events of the year. Assistant Director of Admission Operations Ines Morroni is in charge of the open house as well as arranging campus tours and shadow days for applicants.
MacLannan is grateful for the participation in the club, saying, “Both this year and last year, we have been grateful to have so many members of our school community join the Ambassador Club. The continued interest and participation of students allows us to host a variety of events and ensure that prospective students and families feel welcomed at LFA.”
For prospective students, this is not their final opportunity to see the campus. Morroni and the Student Ambassador Club will host another open house in the spring.
