Cardigans, Uggs, et cetera.

Fall at Middlesex is undeniably a spectacular experience. Crisp mornings, vibrant foliage, and chai lattes all contribute to the quintessentially New England boarding school atmosphere of our beautiful campus, as does autumnal fashion! Sleeveless is out, sweaters are in, and Adidas prevails as the shoe of autumn. Although the weather has been unusually warm, frosty mornings have accelerated the transition into wearing more layers. When asked about the Middlesex staple fall item, Kat Stephens ‘27 replied with, “it has to be the little white cardigan.” A white sweater to throw over any dress or top instantly enhances an outfit to scream Autumn, and it is functional as well, providing a layer of protection against the chill. As a neutral color and style, it is super easily dressed up or down, and is an absolute necessity in every girl’s closet.

Featured above, Avery Green ‘26 sports a knit white cardigan, styled with a black bodysuit and jade green jeans. She tastefully elevates the outfit with the sweater, as it contrasts with the dark top and incorporates a cozy texture. However, although the little white cardigan is an absolute classic, other interesting and colorful sweaters are in store.

Here, Phoebe Seidman ‘26 is wearing an adorable navy sweater with floral embroidery and dotted detailing, over a pair of jeans and Adidas Gazelles. Phoebe effortlessly makes this sweater look stylish and comfy, yet not overly dressy or casual, beautifully demonstrating the versatility of a uniquely patterned sweater. Abby Tribush ‘26 is also featured in this picture, wearing classic fall colors. Her red shirt is a refreshing pop of color that matches the foliage, and her jeans balance the sleeveless top to make for a warmer outfit. Both girls are wearing Adidas shoes, which is not particularly surprising, as they are a well-loved shoe brand, known for their color variety and comfort.

However, as the weather gets colder, more students are predicted to wear Uggs–particularly the minis. Although they aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, they arguably make an outfit a million times cozier and are a true staple in fall fashion. A fabulous variety of jackets and vests will also soon emerge. It’s not quite puffer-season yet, but some days definitely call for more layers than just a long-sleeve or sweater. Jackets and vests in particular can make a basic outfit more interesting and a dressier outfit more practical. Of course, there are still some warmer days left, so don’t pack up your dresses and tees yet! This is a temperamental season in terms of climate, so anticipate what versatile, autumnal layers Middlesex students will be wearing to stay snug and stylish.
