On Friday, Weekend Activities Director Kevin Ingram announced the activity’s theme for this weekend: Women in Sports.

The highlight of the weekend will be the girls volleyball game against Latin. The theme, “Pink Out,” was chosen in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Pink Out is not the only reason that the game will be important, though, as Friday will also be Senior Night for the team.

“It is going to be such a hype atmosphere to play on Friday, and the game is big for the team for so many reasons. It’s Senior Night, a Pink Out and we are representing women in sports against a competitive opposing team in Latin.” Akshara Ginjupalli ‘28, an outside hitter for the team, said.

The game will be a thriller, as the highly motivated Caxys will be taking on what Ginjupalli describes as a “good team” and, in doing so, hoping for a way to honor the bigger picture of the weekend: the struggles of women in sports.

“I think our game is important because it shows that women can do anything they are committed to, and we are role models for young girls who aspire to play a sport, ” Ginjupalli said.

This game is also going to be important for the team because it will be their first one after tonight’s game against U-High, which will determine who wins the ISL and takes home the conference championship. The spirits will be high coming off of such an important game, especially for the seniors, as they have the chance to leave LFA as ISL champions before playing in a meaningful Senior Night and pack-the-house event.

“It’s a big deal for the seniors because it is a chance to celebrate everything they did for the team, how they helped us grow and the memories they made before they go to college,” Ginjupalli said.
